So let's talk about how businesses are tracked in Rock. And before we jump into looking at some screens, let's just look at how it's tracked actually in the data model because understanding that will actually make maybe make a little bit more sense to you. So businesses are actually person records. Okay. So if you're familiar with the person table, it's the same table that we use for businesses.
So these first two records, if we show, , what that table structure looks in a very simplified way, you'll notice there's Ted and Cindy Decker. And the third item here is Cindy's dress shop. Okay? So this is actually a business. Now notice a business doesn't have a first name, it just has a last name.
And the only thing that distinguishes it as being a business is this record type. Okay. So people are are record type one and a business is of record type two. Now we do this because businesses actually share a lot of the same information as a person and we wanna report, especially around giving, in a lot of the same ways. So by treating it as a different type of person record, it allows us to do a lot of simple things.
Okay. So now with that known, let's jump over and look at how we do businesses in Rock. Since businesses in Rock are usually tied to just giving, we put them under the finance area. So we go under finance businesses and we'd see a list of all of our businesses. Okay.
So let's go ahead and add our first business. And we're gonna add this as Cindy's dress shop. And we could provide an address if you'd and some contact information. And notice if you look here, you're you're probably seeing some very common things to a person the email preference. And again, it's simply because they are kind of a person record behind the scenes.
Same thing with record status. So they can be active or inactive. If we make them inactive, we give a reason. So a lot of the same things that you're used to with a person, you'll notice are the same thing with a business. Okay?
So we've entered the basic business information. Let's hit save. Okay. Now, this point, we can start adding contacts to the business. And these are gonna be linkages between the business and an actual person.
So in this case, we might use Cindy Decker as the contact. You can have as many of these as you'd . Okay. So now we've added our business contact. And if we were to go over to Cindy Decker's record, you would see that there is this, known relationship to the business.
And so we can jump back and forth based on that. Now, if there were any transactions, you would see them listed down here below. This should remind you a lot of the contributions tab on the person profile page. A lot of the same functionality you see there, you'll see here. And honestly, it's really just the same blocks just wired up for businesses.
So that is how to do businesses within Rock.
