Rock U - Caching - Cache Tags

Transcribed Video Content

There may be times where you're gonna need to clear cache globally. You could individually clear your cache through the block settings by changing the duration settings. Or you can go through the CMS configuration manager to set up some cache tags and clear them globally from there. Let's jump inside the software to take a look on how to add these cache tags and apply them to your block settings. Here in Rock, we're in the CMS Configuration Cache Manager page. We can see the cache tags that have already been created and we can see all the cache statistics here. In this dropdown, you can select on individual items and see their cash statistics updated. You can also set your Redis back plan settings. The user guide goes in-depth on how to get this set up. To add a hashtag, you're going to click the plus button, give it a name and a description. Now with your cache tags created, you can go to your internal or external website to add these tags to the individual block settings. Let's go up to our external site, and we have our podcasts. Let's say for our podcast series, we want to change the image. We're going to click inside of the podcast, and we'll go to the block setting. Here we see the channel item configuration, and we'll go to the advanced settings. We see the cache tags listed here. We can check as many as we'd , or just leave it at one. You can also not have any checked at all. We'll keep podcast checked. We also see here the cache duration. This is how we would manually change it if we need an image or something to be updated right away. We'll keep it here at three thousand six hundred for now. Now let's go to our content channel on the internal website to change this Moneywise image. Go to our podcast series. Click on Moneywise. And we're just gonna upload a random image. Hit save. Now when we go back to our external website, refresh it, the image has not been updated because it's already stored in the cache. To clear that, we can go back to our cache manager and clear the cache there or change that three thousand six hundred seconds to zero and then it will update. Let's clear this through the cache manager. Go back to our CMS configuration, cache manager. And here we see the linked keys. Now when we clear this, the linked keys aren't gonna be updated. That just means that this cache tag has something linked to it. We have the note that says this eraser button flushes all items from the cache that are tied to this tag. So go ahead and click here. And we get a message that the cache has been removed. Let's go back up to our external website and refresh the page. And there's our updated image. Now we can go back and change the image back. Do the same thing here, refresh the page, and it's not going to show up because this image is now stored inside the cache. We'll go to our block setting and advanced settings. And instead of clearing it there, let's just do zero. Hit save, and there's our updated image. Now if you're gonna change it to zero, you're gonna probably want to change it back. Because having your images and content stored in the cache really speeds up your website. So we wanna keep a value here for some areas. And that's how the Cache Manager works. Be sure to check out the admin hero guide. It goes in-depth on these settings and how it can work for your organization.
