Rock U - Content Management - Page Builder v13
Transcribed Video Content
In the adding pages and blocks video, you saw a couple different ways that you can add pages to your site. You can use the admin toolbar or you can use the page builder. In this video, we're going to take a deeper dive into the page builder option. So to start, we're going to go to admin tools, CMS configuration, and pages. And from here, this is, the top level navigation of a listing of all the pages within each of your sites, including both the internal and external sites.
So if we drill down and we click on a page, here we can see details about the page, the zones and the blocks that are included on this page. And if we click the edit button, then we can see the configuration screens that we covered in the in the prior video. Okay. So let's add a new page from here so we can walk through the process. And we're going to add it under the external home page, and we'll add it under support pages because we don't want it to be navigated to directly, maybe.
Okay. So, as you're adding a new page, you come up here to click the plus button, add page, and you can either add a page to the top level of the tree, or you can add a child page to the selected page. And that's what we're going to do in this example is add a child page to the selected page. And then we're going to provide it with a name, and we'll just say that this is our page. And, of course, it'll copy it down.
This is the internal name, which is only seen internally. Then this is the page title, which can be shown on the page. And then this is the browser title, which shows up, in the browser on the little tab up at the top. Okay. You'll also notice that the site here is set to be the external website.
That's the site that we're on. And the layout is full width. And, of course, the layout drives, , what areas and stuff you have to place blocks on. So, we're gonna leave that that and go ahead and hit save. So now, already, the page builder has created the page for us.
And it's got I its ID, 2687, just that. Now, depending on the layout that you choose, the page builder will automatically set up your zones and blocks. You can edit or add the blocks that are there. So along the top right of the block here is a drop down where each zone in that layout is listed. And here you can change zones to look at different zones.
And you can note that the number of blocks in a zone is displayed for reference. So we know our footer zone has two blocks. And sure enough, it does. So let's switch over to the, maybe the main zone. And there's no blocks there, but we can add a block to the main zone by clicking the add block to zone button.
So if we do that, then here we're given a modal where we can add a block. And let's just say we wanna add the HTML content block, to the main zone there. So we'll just add that block, hit save. Now the block is on the page. And then you'll notice from here that we can edit the HTML directly from here.
So we can type in whatever it is that we want. We can also access the block's properties, so you can change all the properties if you need to. And you can also change the block's security, and manage the security from this page as well. Last but not least, you have this modal move block. And you can choose to move the block from here from the main zone to one of the other zones.
So maybe we move it to the feature zone and hit save. And then now if we flip over here to the feature zone, we can see our moved block. So, as you can see, you can do all the same things using the page builder as you could with the admin toolbar approach. The benefit of using the page builder is that you can kinda do everything all in one place while also viewing your overall page structure, using the the tree navigation along in the left. And thanks for watching.
