When you're hosting an event or a summer camp or another activity for which registration is required, it's often very useful to have the registrants placed into groups. That lets who registered all in one place. However, group placement goes beyond simply placing registrants into a group. In this video, we'll show you how to use group placement to organize your registrants into groups within the registration. To start with, you're gonna need to have your groups configured.
So we'll go over to the group viewer, and we've already done that. We have a parent group called placement groups. And under that, we have our all registrants group, which is through the linkage, the group that we're gonna place all registrants into. But then, have other subgroups here for buses, activities, and cabins. We're gonna use this for our summer camp.
So once you have your groups configured, we can go over to event registration. And again, we're gonna use this in our summer camp configuration. And if we edit this template down here under placement configuration, you can see that we have three different placements, each one with groups. So, if we take a look at this configuration, here for activities, we set the group type, which we just used a general group. You might use a different group type or one that's specific to this.
We can give it an icon. We have allow multiple enabled, and that just means that each registrant can be placed into more than one groups under this heading. So we would allow multiple for activities because a certain an individual can participate in more than one activity. But, as you can see, we don't have allow multiple enabled for buses or cabins because each person would only get assigned to one bus or one cabin. So once you have your placement configuration here set, you're ready to start adding people into those groups.
So let's pull up the instance. And right away, you can see that we have tabs along the middle here for each of the three placement areas that we configured. We have one for buses and cabins and activities. And if we click on those, we get a list of the registrants to the left, and then the groups that we added to the configuration on the right. And all we need to do is click and drag the registrants into the groups.
And now Alex has been assigned to bus one, and Noah has been assigned to bus two. You'll also notice that we put group capacities on, and since we did that, it shows up here. And we can see that this is at one of the 20 available seats. We can do the same thing for cabins, placing Alex and Noah. And you'll notice that their name disappears from the left because, again, allow multiple is not enabled for these, so they can only get assigned to one cabin.
That's different from if we were to look at activities. Because activities allow multiple, we can put Alex in more than one activity, and we can do the same with Noah, just that. Now, this isn't the only way that you can place registrants into groups this. If we go back to look at the template, there's a little crossed arrow icon here that you can use to access the registration template placement. Now, is on the template level, so you'll notice that now the registrants have the specific instance that they registered under, listed for you to review, because this will pull in registrants from all instances, which helps if you have a large volume of people registering across multiple instances.
Once people are placed into the groups, we can go back to the group viewer, and we can pull up bus one, for example, and see Alex Decker has been added. Or we can look at golfing or hiking and see who's been added to those groups right away. As you've seen, group placement goes far beyond placing registrants into a group after they've registered. You can still do that, of course, but group placement lets you go further. We hope that you've learned from this video.
