Rock U - Steps - Adding Steps
Transcribed Video Content
Once you've set up your step program and your step types, you're ready to start adding steps. Steps will be added when people actually perform or start the individual achievements or accomplishments that are needed as defined by the step type as part of the step program. So let's take a look at how it's done. We'll start by looking at the step program that comes out of the box with Rock. And so to access that, we're gonna go to people, and under engagement, we'll click on steps.
And here we see our discipleship path that has four step types. We're gonna click on that. And for our example, let's go ahead and take a look at the starting point class step type, which brings me to the step type. What we wanna do is get a new person added to this list. I'm gonna go ahead and click the plus button to do it manually from here, and we're gonna say whether it's true or not that Noah Decker has started as of today the starting point class.
And we're not gonna put in an end date because we're just tracking that the starting point class has been started, which means that it's in progress. And then I'll click save. And we can immediately see that Noah Decker has been added to the list. I can click again on that row, and here we see Noah's step for the starting point class, and we have our start date and our status. We can add notes if needed, or we can click the Edit button to now populate an end date.
And we'll say that he finished on January 21 and that the step is complete. And then once I save it, again we're brought back to this step type and the participants within it. And here we see that Noah Decker has started and finished the step and that he's complete. Let's take another look at the starting point class. So I'm gonna click on that step type.
And before, we added an individual by clicking the plus button in the lower portion of the page, and we got Noah added that way. However, there is also a bulk entry option for adding steps, and it's indicated by this icon here just below the steps activity summary. So I'm gonna click on that, and here you can see a page that's very similar to the page that we just saw, except now we can enter steps in bulk. And since this is the starting point class, it wants a start date, which I will provide. And the end date isn't required because we might be adding people who have just started and have not ended.
But I'm going to go ahead and put in an end date. We'll say that we're doing this all at once. And because there's an end date, the logical status would be complete. And now that I've set this up, all I have to do is add people Alex Decker, add the step, and we're ready for the next person. I don't have to go through and indicate the start date and the end date or the status for every person individually.
I can leave those settings as is and enter people in bulk. Before we move on to other ways to add steps, let's take a look at bulk entry again, but this time using the baptism step type. So I'm gonna click on baptism and access the bulk entry. Now you may already notice that we have a new field here called pastor. This is a step type attribute that was added.
This attribute was added as show on bulk, which means that just the other step that we added, we'll set a date and a status. And here we're gonna provide the pastor name, the pastor who completed the baptism. And so I'm gonna type in Pete Foster. And just we did for our previous example, now I can go through and add one person after another very quickly, and I won't have to indicate for every person individually that Pete Foster was their pastor. Now that you've seen how you can add steps by accessing the step program and the individual step types, let's take a look at how you can add steps from the person profile page.
Down below here we have the steps tab. And if I click on that, it'll bring me to the step programs in which Ted has participated, in this case the discipleship path. I can add a starting point class or the serving step from here, And when I do, it'll take me to the same place as if I had accessed it from the card view, which is the step entry page. So for Ted, I'm gonna add a new start date, and I'm gonna say that this is in progress. So I'm not gonna provide an end date because he's still in progress on this one.
And after I click save, you'll notice that now the step has changed from complete to in progress, and we also have the number two that appears indicating that there are in fact two instances of this step type. Now once Ted finishes that step, we can edit it. And just from when we accessed it via the step program, we can click edit here and make any changes that we need to. And so I'm gonna do that and save. And we can see here that now it's complete and that he's got two of them.
If I flip over to the list view, we see the same information but displayed slightly differently. So here we can see our two serving steps, each with their own completion dates and statuses. We've got one more way that steps can be added using workflows. We'll start by going to admin tools and general settings. From there, we'll click on workflow configuration.
And I'm just gonna choose a workflow at random. Now there is setup that I should be doing up above here, but for our purposes, I'm just gonna give this a name, steps. And the action type will be steps. And we can add a step. And then go through and populate either hard coded values for the step type, the step status, the start date, the end date, or you can use attribute values.
Again, if you've used workflows in the past, then this is familiar to you. So now that you're familiar with all the different ways that you can add steps, we're ready to start showing off some of those accomplishments with step badges, and we'll cover that in the next video. In the meantime, if you haven't seen some of the other videos related to STEPPS, we encourage you to check those out, as well as the engagement guide posted online for additional details. Thanks for watching.
