Rock U - Content Management - Asset Manager

The asset manager is sort of an integration between your Rock system and remote or cloud storage for images or files or other things that you might wanna put mostly on your website. And so in other words, it's a way to manage the assets that you would be using on your website. And so we're gonna dive into the system and take a look at how we get that all set up. And so first things first, we're gonna head under admin tools to the system settings, and we're gonna go down to look at our asset storage providers. Now, in the system that I'm using now, we only have the one here. This is the local content server file system. But if I wanted to, I could add a new storage provider, and I'm gonna call it Amazon. And right now, asset storage types, we only have two server file system or Amazon s three. There will be more that will be coming or you may add more that yourself, but that's a little bit more advanced and outside the scope of what we're going to be talking about here. But for the sake of demonstration, I'm going to pick Amazon s three, and you can tell that there's quite a few pieces of information that they need that you'll get from Amazon. There's full details regarding all of this in our documentation on designing and building websites using Rock. Now aside from s three, we have our server file system, which just needs a root folder so you can provide the directory there to where your images and files and other things are stored. Once you have your asset storage provider defined, then we can actually go into the asset manager, which is under admin tools and CMS configuration. And again, from here, we're gonna go into the asset manager. So here we have local content, and you can tell that we have the ability to view and manage all kinds of documents, icons, things that, a read me. These are the files that we have in each of these locations. And so it is very much a Windows Explorer file manager type of system. And this is where you'll come to view and manage the documents in the providers that you've configured. And so again, think of this as your file manager for your cloud storage and Rock server. Now, there are two ways that you can use these assets through your website. The first is using an asset attribute, and the second is through the HTML editor. We're gonna look first at adding content through an asset attribute. And so to do that, we're gonna go to admin tools and general settings, and we're gonna look at person attributes. And I'm gonna add a new person attribute. We have a lot, but I'm gonna add a new one. And I'm gonna say asset. Why not? And from here, we're going to pick a field type of, you guessed it, asset. And now you can select the asset that you want. And here we go right back to our asset manager, and we can find the images that we've used, that we've stored, and attach it to the attribute. So this is very much uploading a picture, except it can be any different sort of file type that you have. Now I'm going to cancel out of that and head to the external website. So here we are on our external website and on the Resources page, which I clicked on just at random. It can be any page. I picked this because it's a little on the simple side. And here we can go to the block configuration and edit the content here through the Edit HTML block. And I'm gonna turn off the code editor over here, which enables all of these features. And you can tell we have this folder here labeled asset manager. And you guessed it. When we click on it, it'll bring us to what should look very familiar because we just saw it from our internal site. And here you can add whatever it is that you need. Icons, images. I'm gonna go ahead and pick a random Rock icon, and there it is inserted directly in. Obviously, that's not something that I'm gonna keep, but you can tell how easy it is and how you'd be able to use it. And so you can see how easy it is once you have an asset storage provider set up to be able to load assets into that storage provider and then to use them as attributes or on your external website. It's pretty easy, almost as easy as drag and drop. So we hope that you check it out, and we hope that you review our other Rock U videos and the documentation that we have for more information on assets and asset storage providers and the asset manager. Thanks for watching.
