Rock U - Data - Using Phone Number Lookup
Transcribed Video Content
In this video, we're going to take a look at what you can expect a person to see and experience as they use the phone number lookup feature in Rock. And so if you haven't watched the overview or configuration videos yet, some of this might be out of context, so maybe circle back and watch those. Or check out the documentation in the Rock admin hero guide. But for now, we'll dive right in and, and see what people will see. You can access phone number lookup directly by just depending forward slash phone identification, all one word, to the URL of your site.
That page and that route exists in Rock out of the box. Typically, people who are using your system will access this as a step within mobile check-in or the attendant self entry process, so they may not be going there directly. But that's how we got here. And however the block is accessed, the person will be prompted to provide their mobile phone number. And so we're doing this from a computer.
So the page is obviously gonna look a little bit different compared to on a mobile phone, but the processes and the steps and the things that people will see are the same. So I'm gonna go ahead and provide a phone number, and I'm gonna use (623) 555-2441. I'm gonna go ahead and click, or if it was on a phone, would tap lookup. Here, it's asking for a confirmation code. And this is important because the phone number that I just typed in is not only fake, but doesn't exist in Rock.
So I just made up a number. I can't proceed beyond this point. So this is a security feature to make sure that we don't pull back the covers on anything that may or may not be in Rock until we're confident that the person who provided the phone number has that device in their hand and got the text message with the code that we need. I'm gonna go back and this time put in a real phone number that is attached to a record in Rock. So now I've provided a real phone number, and it is a real phone number, so I didn't show you what that looks .
But I did receive a text on the mobile device that I'm using with a verification code, and I will type that in. Within a mobile device, you'll be able to you can copy it to the device's clipboard and then paste it into this field so you don't have to type it out, or you can also just type it out. So then the person will tap next. And in this case, it's gonna take me to the Rock login page because I just access the the block directly. And so even though it knows who I am, it doesn't know what to do with me because it doesn't know if I was trying to access mobile check-in or attendant self entry or something that.
So given no other options, it's just gonna send me back here. But there's another scenario that might occur, and we wanna show that to you too. And so I've submitted my phone number again, and I've received a new confirmation number, which I typed in wrong. And I'll click next. And here you can see that Rock has found more than one person in the system with that phone number.
And so now that we've provided the confirmation code, so again, that's confirming that we are in possession of the device with that phone number that's in Rock's system. Now that they know that we have the device, we can say, okay, who's holding it? Who's in possession of this device? And we can say Ted Decker and click on Ted. Lastly, we wanna show you one other scenario.
And I'm gonna type in so again, I I submitted my phone number already. And now I'm gonna type in the confirmation code that I got and click next. And now I get something different. I see we did not find the phone number you provided in our records. And so this is important to highlight because, again, it doesn't tell us that until after we've provided the confirmation code.
So we're not giving away any information about does that phone number exist in Rock, does it not, who's associated with the phone number. None of that comes through until after the confirmation code is received because that's what tells us that that person is in possession of the device with that phone number. You might consider providing a link on this page to a form where the person can create their profile or learn more about joining. And that's the basics of using the phone number lookup block. And again, that block was used in this example sort of as a standalone block on its own.
In a more real life scenario, a person would access the block as part of some other process. So if they were doing mobile check-in, they would start the mobile check-in process, and then as part of that process, they would be able to click a link that says that they want to use their phone number to identify them. Then they'll be brought to the block that we just saw. When they're finished, instead of going to the login page we saw, they'll pick back up in the process from which they initially started. So if they were doing mobile check-in, once we get that confirmation code and we know who has the device, if there's more than one person with that name, they'll go right back to the mobile check-in process.
Now we know who they are, and they can proceed with checking in. Thanks for watching, and be sure and check out the Rock Admin Hero Guide documentation for more information on the phone number lookup block.
