If you've been using Rock to send and receive SMS text messages, you might have noticed that you started receiving messages from phone numbers that you don't recognize. If that hasn't happened yet, it probably is only a matter of time before it does. And so what happens? Well, when Rock receives a text message from a phone number that it doesn't recognize, it'll create a nameless person record associated with just the phone number, and that allows you to carry on the SMS conversation without knowing the person's name or having any other details about them. So let's take a look at what that looks . Here on the SMS conversations page, can see that we've received a text message from a phone number that we don't recognize. So here, you'll see the phone number in the place of a person's name. You'll also see in place of a person's name the phrase unknown person or nameless person because we don't know who they are. You'll also notice that because it's an unknown person, we have a button that says link to person which you can click to associate the phone number with either an existing record or you can create a new record for the phone number. Now under the admin tools under communications, we have a component called nameless people. And here you can go and look at the list of phone numbers that have come in through your SMS messaging system for which Rock does not have a name. You can click on the person icon associated with any unknown phone number. From here, you can add a new person associated with the phone number by providing all of the standard information that you would provide when you're creating a new person or a family. And you'll notice that there's, near the top left of the little pagelet there, a link existing person option. And so if you already have a person in the system, which you should always check for first, then you can link this phone number to an existing person. Lastly, we wanna point out that if you're using the SMS pipeline, you're probably familiar with the launch workflow action. Within that action, we have an option under the workflow area off to the bottom right here that says pass nameless person. And if you have that selected, it will pass the nameless person into the workflow. If you don't have it selected, then the nameless person will not be included in the workflow. We hope you found this to be helpful. For more information and full details, be sure and check out our communicating using Rock guide posted online as well as the other communication videos.
