Multi site or single site, campuses change the way that Rock reports, schedules, and does check-in. Campuses even allow you to form campus teams and Rock can automatically move families between campuses based on things attendance and giving. Remember that each campus is one individual physical location. Let's check out how to edit or add campuses. So to start, you'll head to admin tools then go up to settings and type in campuses.
We'll go there and we've got a few shown here. Main campus comes out of the box. So let's click on it and look at the setup. One thing I wanna note first is you'll see average weekend attendance show up here and this is something that's pretty cool. This is using metrics and a thing called measurement classifications, where we basically are tracking a metric and we've told Rock that this metric equals the average weekend attendance and Rock will now treat that as the average weekend attendance.
So we have other videos on metrics and documentation. Make sure to watch those if you wanna find out how to get this set up for your organization. But let's head into editing a campus. Right now just wanna note we're looking at the trailblazer settings which also cover essential settings, but you can pick a description and a color for your campus. Let's move on though.
Campus Profile. So status is simply a defined type so you can add or edit the values we have here. These will usually be satisfactory though for your organization. I'm gonna say that my campus here is open. Then another defined type here of the type of campus, say this is a physical campus and we can pick open and close dates.
I'm not gonna select that here. Then if you have many campuses and you have shorthands that you use for campuses, you can easily define that here on your campus under code. Then you can pick a campus leader and this is simply the person that's held accountable to lead your campus. Now something that's required on campuses is to pick a location. This is simply a names location we have set up.
You use locations all across Rock so you'll want to make sure that you pick one here that makes sense for your campus and it'll often have many locations under it. But I've selected main campus. You can also pick a phone number and the URL to associate with the campus. Then schedules, this is really nice way to refer to schedules that you're using in Rock so that if you're doing something check-in for a campus, we automatically know based on the type of the schedule, which you can have multiple, we only have one here. But based on the type of the schedule and the time, what schedule you have available for a weekend service for example, for the specific campus of course.
Then Topics, So this is an interesting thing here. We don't have any Topic Type set up but you can have an email that's associated with a Topic Type, which is simply a defined value And you can use this so that when you're doing automatic replies for things a form submission in Rock, you can have a specific email associated with the topic of the communication so that you can have branded emails. For example, you could have a Rock solid church topic that is just for forms that have to do with new members. We could have Rock solid church demo, new members, email, and then people would get something from the email that makes sense here. And you can pick whether that's public as well.
And then service times, don't worry about this. If you don't have these set up, these will be removed in an upcoming release. But we're gonna save what we have here. Now we've got a nice simple campus setup and I'm gonna show you how we can add attributes here in a moment, but let's look at the campus team. We've already got people here.
Let's add a new person to our campus team. These are simply group members and they're nice when you wanna refer to people as staff, for example, and you can even notify someone as they're added to this group or the notification if the box is unchecked and a group leader notification job is enabled, then a notification will be sent to the group's leaders when this group member is saved. You can pick the member status, communication preference, and then we have some roles to find out of the box. And actually none of these match Ted Decker, so I'm not gonna save him here. But we already have two people added here and you can start defining a campus team.
Now let's add an attribute to campuses. All you have to do is go to admin tools, settings, start typing an attribute and this is gonna be an entity attribute and we're gonna add it to the entity type of person. So you'll wanna filter to the campus entity or sorry, the entity type of campus, not person. Then we already have a special attribute here, but let's add a new one. We already have the type up here.
Let's simply call it levels. And in the future, if you want to have a qualifier, so say you only want this attribute to be on specific campus entities, then you can do that. We're not gonna do that though. We'll just make a simple attribute levels and let's just have a list. We'll make the list one, two, and three.
Save this attribute. Now we have that attribute defined. We'll go back to our campuses, click on the main campus, go to edit it. Now we have an attribute section and we can easily add levels. Obviously this isn't really relevant in this case but if there's something specific to your campuses that you wanna track, it's really easy to do that here using attributes.
And something to remember is when you have multiple campuses, some features will change in Rock. If you're single campus, when you're looking at things steps or connections, you'll never need to specify which campus that you're looking at. But in the future, when you're doing things adding steps for people, sometimes you'll wanna be doing something specifying the campus that that person is linked to. Those are some things that will look different as you start building out your campus list. Campuses give a growing church a clean way to separate and compare locations.
Setting this up thoughtfully will help you do things check-in and giving in a way that actually reflects the way your church meets.
