Rock U - Content Management - Content Channel View

Transcribed Video Content

Building a channel full of blog posts means nothing until your attendees can actually see that content. We can use the content channel view block to display a content channel and tailor what those items look for a viewer. Here we have an example of a blog on our external site. And if we go into the block settings or actually if we go into the zone, you can see this is the content channel view block. And when we go to edit the settings for it, there's a couple things I'll step you through. So we've picked the content channel we want to display here and the statuses that we want to be visible, so only approved items. Then we have a Lava template, and this is what's in the Lava template. Just disregard this for now, and I'll cover some familiar things. It's basically taking the items in a content channel, and it's getting information from the URL and more, then it's outputting the item title as a header, then the attribute of summary from the content channel, then it's also... There's a button here with the link to the item, and it says read more, then it has a right chevron icon. So to click on that button. And if we go back here, exit, we'll see exactly that, the item title, summary, the read more button with the chevron. So you can really customize what you see in these content channel views, but what comes out of the box is pretty nice as well. Then display options, so we can pick how many items show up per page. We can also decide if the page title is set as the content channel name. We can also pick whether it checks and looks for merge content, if this block looks for merge content that you have set up in the Lava template. Then you can enable tag list, which is basically the item tag list Lava merge field will be available, and that's more of a advanced concept, but if you're interested in having the tags that might be added to content channel items available to you, you can do that. You can also enable an archive summary. This is also advanced, but it basically makes this collection available for month and year based content summaries, and you can show an archive of certain items. Then we pick the detail page that shows up when you click on an item here, And we can select how caching works here, basically how long we want this content to stay so that it loads faster next time someone loads up the page. You You wanna set this to zero though if you have any personalized Lava. Then cache tags, we have other documentation covering this, but essentially, we can mark this as a certain kind of cache tag, potentially news, and it's easier later to go and clear the cache for that entire set of cache tags. Then something super nice, and this will really help with personalization, is adding these rule groups for filters and sorting. So you can add a filter, for example, and you can pick certain fields or even data views and, select rules to determine which content items are shown here. We can also pick a context filter attribute, and we'll basically take an attribute that's on the content channel items, and you can use this to filter results from the block's context. Then if you have personalization set up, then we can use personalization, and you can either prioritize or filter by different segments and things that you have set on the content channel items. So for example, you could prioritize showing people a certain piece of content if they have that personalization segment that's set up on the item. we could show a item that pertains more to students if they are falling in the student category. You can also, select to enable query and route parameter filtering, and you can order items by different things that are on the content channel item. Then social sharing, this is really nice if you wanna pick attributes and use them to make it easier when someone shares to pull different information the summary and an image. Yeah, that's it for this content channel view. And if you clicked in here, we'd get details on these different items, but let's go to watch. Now this is showing something different here. If we look at this block, it's again the content channel view. We have a different lava template here, so it's displaying differently, but you can see the flexibility of this block. And if we click into one of these items, what we're gonna be showing is the content channel item view instead. And if we look here, we're using a Lava template that we can actually see right here. It's a bit more complex, but you can see some things that might make sense to you, such as the attribute of series image and the item title, the start time, and more. Then we have some more things configured on this item. For example, we can pick whether interactions are logged when this item is viewed. We can also run a workflow when the item is viewed, which is really nice. Then for social media, so that people can use these different attributes you set up when sharing content on social media platforms, you can get really specific about what shows up depending on the platform. Then under advanced, we can use query parameters, and this is basically, you can use things that are in the URL to control how the block determines which content channel item to show and how the page is presented. We can also pick a detail page here. We can select whether when there's no item specified by the URL, display the most recent item from the configured channel. We can set the page title from the item that shows up here, and we can also have this check if there's any merge content or lava that needs to be displayed. Then again, we can pick how caching works on this item and what cache tags are enabled. Now you don't always have to use the content channel view and then the content channel item view. The lava documentation here is an example of a different approach you can take. If we go into filters and I go to the block settings, we're actually using a content channel view, but our lava template is doing something different than we did before. We're doing some nice sorting to basically give you the most valuable thing first, But these items actually are showing all the content when you click into it immediately rather than having to drill down and select and go to a new page. So there's many ways that you can use these blocks to display the exact content that will be beneficial to your attendees. With this block in place, your channel items flow straight to the page and you can use templates to customize the look. So make sure to build a look that you and you can reuse this again and again, keeping your site dynamic.
