Rock U - Groups - Group Purposes

A group's name tells people what it is. A group's purpose tells Rock what it is. Whether it's for serving, small groups, or fundraising, this setting, which is a quiet setting but you'll wanna make sure you have it set properly, changes the way different features scheduling or placements behave. So looking at group purposes, it's a great way to kinda draw a boundary around multiple different group types and say these are all related. In this case, we have a group type that is split up into two more group types, and we're saying that all of these are related to serving and that makes it easier for us. So later on, if we're reporting or doing something else, we can kind of have them all grouped into one. Now reporting on a purpose, again, that's one of the biggest use cases for this. What you can do is you can have a data view that shows every group type with the purpose of serving, then you can get from that every group of those group types. So it's a great way to do reporting on a certain set or kind of groups. Now to add new group purposes, you go to admin tools settings and look for define types. Then we'll type in purpose. You'll see group type purpose. You can easily add to the list here. For example, we have serving area. Now, we go to the actual group types, we'll go to admin tools settings, then look for group types. If we go to something the serving team, we can see we have that group type purpose filled in here and now we'll be able to also see here purposes. So we can see every group type that has to do a serving area or even check-in templates or filters, for example. Just a great way to keep things together in Rock. Purposes give your groups a description that Rock can act on. So assign them thoughtfully and every Rock feature will work exactly as you expect.
