Repeating the same roles and attributes across a dozen group types is a maintenance trap. So to make sure you don't need to do that, you can use group type inheritance so that multiple group types can have the same settings, attributes, roles, and more, making your job simpler. Something I wanna note is that this might inspire you to add more group types because of the way we make it easier to inherit values, but we suggest that you still don't do that. Try to keep it tight and make sure you don't add any redundant group types. It's always better to have less group types that are pulling more weight. But let's look into this. So this is what group inheritance looks . Imagine we have the serving groups group type, and it has this setting requires background check. And we want we we have two different people come to us. The worship teams which have serving groups. They say we need to have instrument as one of the attributes added to our group type. Then the first impressions team comes and they say they need service time as one of the attributes. Now we decide that we don't wanna add extra attributes onto serving groups, instead we wanna split these up. Then here's what we do. We would go to these individual group types that we added and we would say that they have a group type inheritance of serving groups. So they basically get a lot of what serving groups settings already have, but we can add that additional attribute and for for instrument, for example, or for service time, but you can see it still inherits things requires background check. Here are the things that are inherited through group types. There are group attributes, so fields that every group of the type carries, that's really important. Group member attributes, this could be something instrument in the example we just saw. Then group type attributes, you won't really need to worry about this much. This is something that Rock generally uses for things check-in because it's an attribute that you set on the entire group type. But let's look at how to do this real quick. So we're at the group types list right now that you find under admin tools and settings, and we'll just select the serving team group type. And say we wanted to inherit group type values, all you need to do is you go to inherit group type attributes from and you can select that group type here and you will start inheriting values. Inheritance turns a tangle of group types into a tidy hierarchy. So start using inheritance today and make your life a lot easier.
