Rock U - Communications - Nameless People
Transcribed Video Content
Someone texts your organization from a number that you've never seen before. Rather than discarding that message, Rock adds that message to a nameless person profile. We'll talk about where you can find that record and what it looks when you finally match that person with a profile so that you can keep the history of your communications. Let's select the SMS conversations block. So we'll head to people, then scroll down and click on SMS conversations.
And here we have a message. And rather than showing up with a name, there's just a number and we've got a message. We'll click on it, and it says nameless person. Now this nameless person record is one that Rock has in the system that you can use basically as a placeholder while you figure out who you're getting this message from. And there's a couple different implications with that.
I'll cover how we can link this to a person. One of the easiest ways to do that is from the SMS conversations block, you can click link to person and you'll see this show up. You can even link to an existing person and just type someone in in the database if you figure out who this is either through a message thread or another way, or you can add a new person. And it's really easy. It looks the setup when you add a new person anywhere else in Rock, you enter the most important information, hit save, and this person will flip from their current status as nameless to a real person record.
Now an easy way to see all your nameless people is to go to admin tools, settings, type in name, nameless, look for nameless people. You'll see here there's a list of unknown persons. And this one right here is the one that we just dealt with. If you click here, we'll see that same thing pop up. Let's say that we found out we actually know this person, Frank Dexter.
We'll save here. And once you do this, it will basically merge what we already know with that nameless person profile. Let's say we found out, actually, Frank has a new number. That's why we weren't we weren't having this linked to his profile already. Now we can merge, and we'll have one unified record.
Now once this happens, we can go back to that SMS conversations block, and there we go. Now we see that that message is linked to Frank Dexter. One other important thing to note is if we go to the SMS pipeline, so admin tools, settings, SMS pipeline, this might be the way that you're handling your SMS conversation flow. If so, then go to the launch workflow action. If you edit that, you'll notice that there's a setting that says pass nameless person.
And if you're running a workflow without this checked, then someone who's nameless won't be passed in, the workflow won't be run on that person. But if you want to pass the nameless person, you can easily do that by enabling this setting. Nameless people is your safety net for two way texting. Remember to look at this list regularly so that you can match these communications to real people.
