Creating a new page always comes with three steps and that is picking a layout, setting your page properties, and dropping blocks into zones. We'll step through how to do those things and take all the guesswork out of creating your next page. So let's build a real page. We'll go to admin tools up to settings, then type in page and click on pages. Now there's a tree here showing all the different kind of sites we have.
And if you drill down into one of them by clicking on a drop down, then you can see all the different hierarchy of pages we have on each site. And let's add a new page. This one, we don't wanna show up in navigation, so we're just gonna go to our support pages. I've clicked here, then I'll, I'll click add page. We can add a top level one that would create a new, category or a top layer to the hierarchy, but we're gonna add a child to the selected one.
And let's just call this test page, and there's different names here. The internal name, you'll just see internally. The page title will show up on the page. This will be actually up in your browser. And there's some important things here setting the site, picking the layout that you want, and we can pick whether this icon is shown on the page.
We can also write a description. Then we can look into display settings, making sure that we have everything we want such as showing title on the page. Do we want this to show up in any menus? We can say never if we want this to be hidden. We can also pick whether we want child pages shown and many more things.
In the advanced settings, we can pick, if we want a page route here, say we wanted this to be slash test page, then we'd have a nice route after we save this. It would be easy to navigate to. You can even pick a page intent if you have those set up and how you want caching to work here, plus injecting some header content. Let's click save. And there's a few things we can do from here.
First of all, it's easy to see child pages if we've added child pages. We can copy this to get a quick copy of this page with the same settings and everything, then we can also secure the entire page. Now down here, depending on the layout you've selected, you'll see a zone. We have the main zone pulled up here by default. But if you click in the top right, you'll see every different zone that's in this layout plus how many blocks are there.
So if we click into the header, for example, we can see the block that shows up here. It says this block is from the layout, but let's stay in the main zone. And we can add blocks straight to the zone from here. So if we click plus, we can just add an HTML content block, super simple, and we select whether this goes, on the page, the layout, meaning it would show up here for anything or any page that's added with this layout or for the entire site. We're gonna just pick page though.
Then we can easily edit, mess with the block properties, secure, even move this block to another zone if we . But let's edit this. And super simple, we can just say, hello all. Save. Then we can navigate to this real page on the site and you can see it has all the content as promised.
The block is added here and we have our test page. With layout zones and blocks, you can create almost any page that your organization needs. Remember to use site wide headers if you want to have something that's persistent across your whole site or just have things page specific when you want to customize just one page.
