So let's talk about known relationships. Known relationships are a way of patterning real relationships that happen in the real world into Rock. It allows you to create these relationships between two different people and two different families. So let's take a look on the person profile page. So here we are with Ted Decker and if we scroll down we can see a block called known relationships.
By clicking the plus sign, we can go ahead and create different relationships to people. So let's create a relationship where Ted Decker is allowed to check-in another child. So maybe it's a neighbor, kid. So we're gonna go in here, we're gonna say can check-in. And the way you kind of read this is you wanna say the person that you're whose profile you're on, Ted Decker, can check-in and then the person's name.
Okay. So we hit save. So again, Ted Decker can check-in Brian Jones. Now, we'll click on Brian Jones's record. If we come over here, we can see it automatically created an inverse relationship for me for Ted.
So now, Brian Jones is allowed to check-in by Ted Decker. Okay? So it automatically created that for me. I don't have to go create that. So back on Ted's record, let's look at the other relationship types that exist out of the box.
Okay. So we already talked about the allowed check-in buy and the can check-in. The next two, business and business contact, are really for the financial features of Rock. And this is what ties individuals to businesses. Child is for adult children who maybe are not in the same, immediate family as their parents but you still want to map that relationship.
Facebook friend is a really cool relationship type and this one is automatically created for you if you're using the Google authentication to Rock. And so what happens is when you authenticate to Rock using Facebook, it'll automatically take your friends and create those relationships. Now, only does this with friends, Facebook friends that also have logged in to your instance of Rock. Okay? So you're not gonna get their whole friend list, just those who have also logged in to Rock, which is actually pretty cool because it'll actually create those relationships and you'll start to see that in your database.
Grandchild and grandparent are pretty obvious as are invited and invited by. So this allows you to start to see who's inviting whom. Parent is the inverse relationship to child which we just saw. Previous spouse is another interesting example because this relationship type's inverse is itself as previous spouse. So by putting this relationship on one person, immediately the the, other previous spouse will also have that inverse relationship.
Sibling is is a lot the previous spouse example in that if you put that on one person's record, the inverse will also be the same thing as sibling. And this is for adult siblings that aren't in the same immediate family anymore. And the last one, stepchild, step parent are pretty obvious. Now, you're not limited to this list. You can add your own.
So let's go ahead and look at how we would do that. Now, whenever you have two more people linked together in Rock, that really is a group. So if we go under admin tools general settings group types, we'll see that there is a group type called known relationship. So let's go ahead and click on that. If we were to expand the roles, we'd see all the different known relationship types that we've walked through before and we'll go ahead and add a new one.
Okay. In this case, we're gonna use an example of a mentoring program that maybe you want to start. So one relationship type would be is mentoring. Now speaking from experience, you want to make sure that you name these, carefully because you want to be able to read it in the same kind of name, example that we did before. So Ted Decker is mentoring somebody else.
Okay? Now, we're gonna create the inverse relationship and this is gonna be mentored by. And notice I'm not actually configuring the inverse relationship here. I can't really do that yet. I have to actually add these two roles then save the group type and then go back in and set those values.
And that's because really those roles don't exist in the database yet. So we need to save that then we can come in and edit it. Okay. So is mentoring, the inverse type would be mentored by. And mentored by, the inverse relationship would be is mentoring.
Okay. Now, we save this and we're done. So let's go back to Ted Decker. Okay. So let's add our new relationship type.
So the relationship would be is mentoring. So Ted Decker is mentoring and let's find someone for him to mentor, Ben. Save. Okay. So Ted Decker is mentoring Ben Jones.
Click on Ben's record and we can see Ben Jones is mentored by Ted Decker. So that's how you create known relationships in Rock and how to customize that also.
