Family structures can be more complex than just having a household list. That's because you may have a child that lives between multiple homes, has a step parent, or they just have a family does that doesn't fit into the typical model. And you wanna be able to track those things in Rock so that you can care for those families. I'll show you how to set up blended families in Rock and use it so that you can care for people better. Let's look at it now. When it comes to blended families in Rock, there's really two different approaches, and I'm going to step through both of them. So in this example, we have Brian, and he's actually a part of approaches. And Rock has features built in to deal with both of them. This first example we're looking at here is a dual family approach. So right now, Brian is actually a part of two completely different families. So imagine the history of this family. At one point, Sarah was married to Ben, and now she's no longer married to Ben. She's married to Jim. But Brian has custody, or both of his parents have custody over him. Maybe they still attend the same church, maybe they don't. But to model this relationship for purposes check-in and reporting, the dual family approach is a good option. And if we actually go look at Brian's profile, we can see that he is listed in two completely different families and they have different family attributes. They're all separate, different addresses, and this is a really nice way to handle it. And Brian can both be checked in by Ben Jones and the Simmons family. Now when we actually go to edit, you can also see that Brian is shown just any other family member. And if we go edit Brian's profile, you'll see that everything looks the same here and he is genuinely treated as a child of both families. Now another approach is not the dual family approach, but it's using known relationships or the can check-in relationship. So imagine Madison who her father is Craig, but she's no longer living in Craig's household. Maybe Moriah is the only person with custody. And whether or not both of these families attend the same church, we want Maddie to be able to be checked in by Craig, but we don't want her to be a part of both families because it doesn't make sense in this case. So on Maddie's profile, we've actually added a known relationship to Craig Lowe allowing him to check-in, but she's only listed as part of the Jackson family. So all we had to do to give her dad access was go click plus on known relationships and we picked mister Lowe and picked a relationship type of allow check-in by and click save. There we go. Great. Now complex families are represented accurately in your system and this matters for every communication, event registration and more so that you can make sure the right things get to the right people.
