Not every gift you get comes from a person. Sometimes it comes from a company, an organization, or even a foundation. And businesses allow you to connect contacts to a real business that you can use so that you can track giving properly. To understand businesses before we show you how to give as a business, let's look at how they're stored under the hood. So you're probably familiar with person records in Rock.
These people will have a first name and a last name, email and much more attached to their person record. You can see we have Ted Decker and Cindy Decker here and they have a record type of one. Now businesses under the hood are simply person records that are stored a little bit differently. So there's no first name as you can see here in the third row, but we have Cindy's business name stored as the last name on the record as Cindy's dress shop. Then we have an email and under the hood again, we have many other properties for businesses that are similar to a person record.
Then we have a different record type stored so that Rock knows this is a business. Now let's move on to the internal site. Now this is the admin view to find those actual businesses, we'll go to finance, down to businesses, click on that. We've got a business list here. Something I wanna mention real quick is that we make it easy for you to convert a record between a person record and a business record.
But let's go into the Cindy's dress shop business. Click into it and you can see a lot of things similar to on the person profiles such as giving configuration, if this business has scheduled transactions and more, but you wanna make sure to add business contacts to a business. We'll add Cindy Decker here. I'll show you how this actually shows up. So if I click on Cindy here, it'll take me to her profile.
Then you can see under known relationships that we simply have a known relationship of business. If I click here, it'll take us back to businesses. Now, this business doesn't have any giving yet, but I'm gonna show you one that's actually started giving Rock solid landscaping. If I click here, we can see lots of properties email address, address, business contact, and then a quick summary of contributions. Then on top of that, we can see some actual giving that's happened such as a scheduled transaction, some pledges that have been made.
We can actually get the contribution statement for the business and see a history of the transaction list here, all the different transactions that have happened very similar to when you're looking at transactions on a person's record. Managing businesses separately allow you to keep your giving records and contribution statements clean so that businesses can get the right things for tax purposes and you can keep your records clean and easy.
