Rock U - Personalization - Adaptive Messages

Rock is about personalization and not everyone that comes to your site needs to see the same kind of message. Adaptive messages allow you to tailor a specific message to people based on what we know about them in Rock. So let's look at how to set up an adaptive message right now. Let's check out how to add a new adaptive message. So you'll start by going down to admin tools, then go down to adaptive messages, click on that. And there's a couple categories here and you can easily add a new category or click on a category and then you can add an adaptive message to it. So this is our all church category and I've already created an adaptive message. And if you wanna add a new one, you simply click this button or you can search, but we're gonna click on the one that I've created and step through it. First of all, you'll notice our key and the category. You can pick whichever category you want, just a nice way to organize stuff. I'll click edit so we can see more, but you enter a name that makes sense, a description to sort of describe what this message is used for, then pick a key. And this is important to pick something that makes sense because you'll end up using this in your lava later depending on how you're gonna display this message. You can also pick a start date and an end date because there's all sorts of criteria to make sure that the messages we're presenting are appropriate for the person who's receiving the message. And as an example, say we have a message that we by default want to show to people that are givers. And there's a period of time where we want there to be different conditions and based on those conditions you get a different message. That's when you'd pick a different start date and end state for an adaptive message, but we're not gonna do that right now. Then these attributes were set on the category, but they're really important. So you wanna make sure that you have attributes that make sense. These are actually some shared ones that came out of the box here and they provide a lot of customization. Then if you wanna add anything else to your adaptive message such as an attribute, you can really easily do that, pick a field type, and save it. So once you've created this adaptive message as a whole, you'll be creating individual adaptations and you can do that by clicking this add a new item button. But let's go through what we have here And one by one, I'll explain these to you. So I've clicked edit and it's pretty simple once you get in here. We have our name and description and then we have all the attributes configured for this adaptive message. So it really depends on the attributes that you have set up, But we can pick a start and end state for an individual adaptation as well, which is really nice if you wanna have timely messages, then this is really important and it's the segment. Later, I'll briefly click to the place where you can create a new segment. This is a personalization segment, but the conditions of this segment determine whether someone will receive this message. For example, we've set up our segment so that only active givers with a scheduled recurring gift will have this adaptation. And after that, we've made sure that the view saturation count is three. So once someone sees this message three times, it's considered saturated and, we won't show it. Then a view saturation saturation date range is thirty days. And basically what this means is that, if someone views this more than three times within thirty days, then the message has been saturated. Now moving on, here are a couple of the attributes and this isn't super important. You'll just see where you can view these later, but you can use Lava in many of these fields such as the call to action text, which allows us to really personalize the message that we're showing. We've I've picked a detail image, details, more, there's all kinds of things you can add to this message. Now I've done the same thing a couple different times for different kinds of givers such as an active giver without a schedule or recurring gift. We wanna give them a little bit of a different message and non active giver than new or default audience. And it's always great to have a newer default audience fallback. This is basically the message that's gonna be shown if someone doesn't fall in any of the other categories that those other adaptations have. And you can see we don't have a segment set up here. And what that means is if someone doesn't doesn't fall in the bucket of the other segments, then this message will show up for them. Now one other important thing I need to call out here is that the order matters because often some segments you have, someone, will will fall in the bucket of multiple different segments. For example, if there's someone that doesn't have a scheduled recurring gift and is a non active giver, which isn't really a thing, but if that was the case, then the message that would be shown is the one that is furthest up. So if you fall into all these buckets, you're gonna be shown the active giver with a scheduled recurring gift message. And okay. Let's look at personalization segments. So click on admin tools, go to settings, and start typing in personalization. Click on personalization segments. And I'm not gonna show you how to create these here. We have another video on that, but you can see we have all of our segments that we need in place. We actually don't need this newer default audience one, but, we have all these segments in place and they're persisted so we know exactly who to show certain messages to. Now moving on, here is our Lava documentation and I just wanted to cover this because it's important to know what Lava to use to show an adaptive message. And you can do a lot of different things with this Lava commands. I suggest you read up on the documentation to learn more. But basically, you'll refer to a message key, which you saw our message key that we have, And you can pick adaptations per message, all these different parameters. And then you can easily display those attributes that we saw out of the box and more. You just refer to the key of the attribute and then using Lava this, depending on the segment that someone falls into, you can pick the exact output. And here is a really good example. So depending on the tab I click on here, I'm actually impersonating a different person and what they would see. So if you're in the first category, a recurring giver, you see that exact text, the exact description, call to action link, all that that we set up in the adaptive message. If you're an active giver Ted Decker, looks a little bit different, exactly tailored to Ted. Again, the non active giver, only people that fall into this bucket would see this message. Then if you don't match any of those categories, we have our fallback message and that is adaptive messages. Great. Now you've got some personalized content that adapts depending on who's looking at the page. Thanks for watching this video and have a great day.
