Rock U - People - Impersonation

One useful tool for Rock admins is the ability to impersonate another member. This might sound creepy, something out of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but it's not. All it means is you can view Rock, your organization's internal and external pages as another person with their permissions and settings. And this could be useful if someone needs help with a technical issue, maybe with their personal profile page or another issue in Rock. You can view them without creating a login which can result in duplicates in your database. So it's an easy way to view pages and to help people out just by impersonating them. Now a couple things to note. Rock allows you to impersonate people by using person tokens which you can learn more about in our documentation. And second, any time an admin impersonates another person, a record of that login is stored in the person's history tab. So let's take a look at how impersonation works. So impersonation is a setting located in the BioBloc settings of the person profile page. So here we are at Alicia Marble's dashboard. Alicia is an admin so she has permission to impersonate another person. So let's say pastor Ted needs technical help and Alicia needs to view Rock as him to help him out. The first thing we're going to do is we're going to search for Ted in our search bar. So here we are at Ted Decker's profile page. We're gonna turn on the block settings and go to the bio bar, block settings. And you'll see here there's a field for enable impersonation. We're going to select yes. And you'll see below there's an impersonation start page. Now if you want to set a page to automatically go to after you begin impersonating another person, you can set that page here. But we're not going to do that for this example. We're just gonna click save. Okay, so now we have the enable impersonation field set to yes. If you go over here to the actions menu on Ted's profile page, you'll see that we now have this ability to impersonate. So I'm gonna click impersonate. And you'll notice up here in the right corner instead of saying hello Alicia, it now says hello Ted. So we're no longer seeing or Alicia is no longer seeing Rock as herself. She's seeing it as Ted. So from here, she can do whatever she needs to help him, whatever issue he needs help with. And when she's ready to go back to viewing Rock as herself, she can go down to the admin toolbar and there's a button down here that says restore Alicia admin. So clicking the restore button takes her back to her login screen, logs in, and you'll see up here in the upper corner she's now Alicia again. She's no longer seeing Rock as Ted. She's back to Alicia. If you want to turn off the impersonation settings, you would go back to the bio, block settings, go back to enable impersonation and turn it off by clicking no. And that is how impersonation works. It's very simple but very useful.
