Rock U - Communications - Communication Overview

People expect the communications they receive to be polished and tailored to them and something that they really want to see. Now Rock has a bunch of tools that help you do those three things. And let's get into what communications look in Rock. And we'll approach this in steps so you can see from start to finish what a communication looks . Now before you send a communication, we need to create communication lists.
And this is simply groups of a type in Rock. And there are two different ways we can do this. First of all, you can have a synced data view, meaning this is something you create. You have the parameters for who's gonna be in this group, but it'll automatically update over time so you don't have to go in and do this whenever something changes. But you can also manually create a communication list, which is better for one time events or a very specific group of people that you wanna send communications to.
Now once you have that list and you're actually sending messages, maybe you wanna get a bit more specific than that communication list, you can actually use segments which are data views, and they can break down the demographics or more of who's gonna receive this message. So going back to those communication lists we created earlier, you can chop them up. And there are two ways for this. You can create a global data view that has a subset of the people from that communication list. And this could be something age or it could be something gender so that you can really target your messages.
Or it can be list specific and for parents of youth, for example, you could create a, data view that is just for parents of youth that are sending their kids to this specific summer camp you've created. Then you can get super specific with who's receiving your messages. Okay. Now we've solved who's receiving the messages. Let's move on to step two.
This is all about preferences. And with messages, we wanna give people preference for what they receive so that they feel respected in the communications process. And in this example, this man is getting to choose whether he wants to receive messages via email or SMS, but he's picked email. Moving on, we're on the admin portion now. From the inside, as someone who is sending out the communication, we can choose whether or not we wanna respect their preferences in case we have a reason to override such as, say, this man wants his message via email, but this message we're sending out is really targeted for SMS.
It's something we wanna send through SMS. We can choose whether or not we wanna respect their preferences. Now moving on to step three, this is about how a message is sent. And there's many different ways and we'll have videos. You can see other Rock You videos that go deeper into these concepts.
I highly suggest you watch those if you wanna learn more. But we have the communication wizard, which steps you through picking people to receive a communication and even doing drag and drop email building or creating really polished messages and then getting them sent off. There's also the SMS pipeline, which helps you create sort of a flow of what you want to happen when someone sends a message to your number. And this can handle some complicated things giving workflows and more. It'll really save you some time in communications.
Then we also have communication flows, which help you create a series of automated messages that launch on a time that you suggest or in other ways. And these people that are receiving the series of messages could even be completing a goal along the way, and you pick when they leave this flow. In addition, you can use multiple different mediums, meaning you can can start out by sending an email, then an SMS message, and a push notification, however you wanna do it. Then another great thing about sending communications in Rock is you don't have to do all the heavy lifting. If you've created a beautiful message, we don't want you to have to recreate it every every single time.
In the different methods that you can send by, you can simply use a template so that you can stand on the shoulder of the giant, which is yourself. If you've already created a great message, you shouldn't have to redo it. Then step four, the last step of communications is now the communication has been sent off. You wanna know what people are doing with it. Rock has a host of different ways you can check analytics.
You can see great things , the click through rates, the open rate, and even the unsubscribe rate. So you can see how are people receiving the things that I've sent to them. There's many, many different analytics you can see through Rock. Okay. That's it for communications.
Again, if you wanna learn more, please watch our other Rock U videos on the communications concept. We go into different areas such as analytics and communication lists and all of the different ways you can send communication. Thanks for watching.
