Okay. So let's really drill down in the content channel types and content channels and really kind of see how you administrate that and how you set these up. Okay. So to look at either one of those, you would go under admin tools, CMS configuration, and then from here you can administrate your content channel types and your content channels. So let's first start with content channel types.
Okay. So out of the box, we ship with a few and note that there are two universal types. And the reason why we have two universal types is they're really dependent upon what kind of dates, logic that come out of it. And so let's go ahead and and look at one of these and we'll kind of see the differences there. So with the content channel, the first thing you do is you just give it a name.
And then the next thing you gotta do is you gotta start to decide how do you wanna configure your content channel. And one of the configurations is what type of date will be used. So in this case, have date range or single date. So date range might be something useful for within a website ad. So the content channel item is good for a certain date range and then you want to have it drop off.
A blog post is probably more useful to have a single date. Okay. So that's the date that it was published. And so that's why we have two different universal types. There's one for the single date and one for the date range.
After that, there's a few more configuration options. You can disable priority. So by default or or on the model, there is a priority field and that just kinda determines which of these are most important. And so on an ad, that's very important. You some ads are more important than others.
But on a blog post, you probably don't need that. Also, can determine whether to or not to consider or use time. So again, for a blog post, that's that's very handy because you wanna usually post it at a certain date and time. So this allows you to do that. Okay.
Next, we jump into the content channel attributes and the content channel item attributes. So for this, let's actually just flip over and let's look at another content channel type. So here oh, sorry. I I picked the wrong one. Let me just pick blogs.
I thought that's the one I picked but actually picked Bolton. Okay. So in this case, we have some some good sample data here. So we're looking at the blog's image. So it might be that each blog has an image that kind of just kind of goes along with it, kind of describes what it is.
And then below that, each content channel item on a blog will have a summary and an image. Okay. So this is just kind of showing you how you set up these attributes on a content channel type. Okay. So that's the high level overview of content channel types.
Now let's drill into content channels themselves. Okay. So this time we're gonna go back to CMS configuration and look at content channels. Okay. So we were looking at the blog one, so let's just continue with that, kind of, use case.
So let's look at the website blog. Now if we click the to edit the, content channel, we're gonna see that we give it a name, which is, , pretty obvious why we'd wanna do that and a good description. And then next thing up, we need to determine what type we want our content channel to be of. And so we chose blogs cause we're creating a new blog here. But you can choose any type that you want.
Next, we give it a icon CSS class so we can describe it, and have a nice little icon next to it and we're gonna see that that's actually very useful when you're putting in the content and managing it to have a nice icon. Okay. We're gonna skip the child type here and we're gonna come back and have a video just on that. Okay. Next step is we want to determine what's the default edit control.
So when you when you have a content channel, a lot of times you're gonna use this content, property. And so this is just describing how do you want to edit that content. Do you want to use an HTML editor or do you want to use a code editor? That's really up to how familiar your audience is with HTML. Below that, when you use the HTML editor, you can upload images.
And this is just gonna say, hey, where do you want those images on your website and on your web server? Where do you want those images to land? And so this allows you to define where that's gonna be. Now, when you're dealing with content channel items, it could be that you want your staff to enter them, but you just don't want them to be published without you first reviewing it. And so this, determines whether the content channel needs to have approvals before it goes out.
Next, you can determine the ordering of your content channel items. A lot of times you might wanna manually order those so you can kinda drag them into the right order. Other times, you're gonna worry about that more by looking at the date of it, or other attributes about the content channel item. But in some cases, you do wanna be able to do it manually. The same thing with with child items.
But again, we'll we'll come back and have a video just on channel items. Now, over here, we're gonna see some information about some of the the image. So remember when we set up the blog channel type, one of the channel attributes was an image. So that's what's showing right here. So I can upload an image for that.
And then these next four properties really are dependent upon RSS. So RSS is a way that you can, put your content out there to be syndicated. And so you can have things come in and see what content channel items are there and kind of report back. So a lot of blogs will use this for their blog feeds. And this is just basically configuring that.
So whether RSS is enabled, what's the channel URL. So if I wanna get find information about the channel, where do I go on your website? And then what's the URL to get the channel items from? Okay. And then it's also common in RSS to have a a TTL or time to live.
, how often should I come back looking for more, content? And then the final, configuration item for a content channel is what additional item attributes do you want to configure? Okay. So I could configure some custom attributes if I so desired. Okay.
So let's hit cancel. Now, all that's left is to actually add content. Okay. So let's look at one of these blog posts that's already here. So the basic content channel is gonna have a title And if you configured it for approval, it'll have a status.
And then you would have, in this case, it's a single date. So you have a single date and this time we we said we cared about time, so it actually allows to enter time. And then the actual content for the content channel item. Below that, you'll see any attributes that would have been configured either on the content channel type or the content channel for you to add values to. And so that's the basics of of entering a content channel.
Now, one other quick administrative note is that content channels have the concept of security. So once you create it, you'll see this little padlock that allows you to control the security of the content channel. So you have things view, edit, administrate the typical ones. But then you also have, ones that are different that determine whether you have rights to approve it or to interact with the content channel. Now again, just it's a typical security dialogue, but just note that it does have two new verbs, approve and interact.
So that's the basics of working with content channel types and content channels.
