Let's take a look at the communication lists and segments in Rock. These are two really important parts of communicating in Rock. Communication lists are a little email contact lists that you might set up in your own messaging programs. In Rock, communication lists are groups of a type, and that might sound familiar to some of you. If you can create a group of it, you can create a communication list for it. So, for example, you could create a communication list for small groups or ushers or staff. Segments are data types, which, which again might be familiar to some of you. Data types, there are data types that you can use to further filter down your communication lists. So you might have a communication list that is for small groups and then use a segment to send communications to only, members of small groups who are over the age of 35. So together, these tools let you quickly identify recipients for your communications in Rock and send them out. So let's take a look at, at the communication lists in Rock. So the communication lists are found in the admin tools menu under communications. And if you click on communication lists so Rock ships with four communication lists, adult members and attendees, parents of children, parents of youth, and sports ministry. But these are just samples to give you an idea of the kind of list that you can create. The possibilities here are endless. You can create lists of anything. So, for this example, we're going to take this parents of youth, and we're gonna create two new lists, one for parents of junior high students and one for parents of high school students. And I am going to start by going into my data views. The data views are located under the tools menu. Click on data views. You'll see here we have communication segments. And communication segments, again, are ways of filtering our communication list. So ROT comes with a few ready to go. I'm going to add a new one. And what I wanna do is I want to isolate the parents of junior high students. So, first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna give this a name. Parents of junior high students, and I'm gonna create some filters that will isolate students or persons of certain grades. So it applies this data view applies to person, and I want these filters to apply to any, not all, but any people whose grades are greater than or equal to sixth grade. I'm gonna add another filter on grade that is less than or equal to eighth grade. So this is a data filter or a data view of people whose grades are greater than or equal to sixth grade and less than or equal to eighth grade. In other words, junior high students. Now, I don't wanna, just target junior high students. I want these communications to go to their parents. So I'm going to use a post filter transformation of parents. When I save this, you'll see I now have a, the results down here of the parents of junior high students. I'm gonna click on communication segments again, and you'll see that that is now in there. Okay. Let's go back to our admins tool or admins menu and go to communications. We're gonna create a communication list now. So we're gonna click the add button here, and this gives us the communication list detail screen. This is where we set up our list. So I'm gonna call this first one parents of junior high students. Now there's a couple options under the, group group attribute values. I can choose whether or not to make this list public, which means clearly the public can view it. I'm gonna do that. And I'm going to, go down to the group sync settings. Oh, first, I'm gonna give this a public name. So again, I'm gonna call it parents of junior high students. Giving it a public name allows people to see the the public list. Okay. So down under the group sync settings, I am going to sync this communication list with my my segment, my communication segment. So I'm gonna choose parents of junior high students, and I'm going to hit save. So you'll see here that I have now a communication list of parents of junior high students, and it is populated with recipients. So if I go to create a new a new communication now using the communication wizard, I can pull that list from my drop down menu, parents of junior high students. And you can see here it says I have six recipients. So it's it's identified those those recipients who meet those qualifications of those filters. Now if I wanted to further pare down this list, I could use another segment. So, for example, if I wanted to send this communication only to the mothers of parents of junior high students, I could choose the female segment, and you'll see that my recipients went down to three. So it's only identifying the female recipients who are parents of junior high students. So that's a little about how communication lists and segments work. Again, it's really flexible. You can customize this to identify any group, and pair it down using segments to reach just about anybody. So, you go.
