Rock U - Communications - Communication Preferences [Legacy]

Communication preferences are an important part of communications in Rock. It's how the communication wizard knows what to send, what recipients want to receive. And as I discussed a little in the communication overview video there's two sides to communication preferences. There's the admin side and then there's the member side. From the admin side, they can view communication preferences on a person's profile. So let's look at that now. So here is Ted Decker's profile page, his person profile page. If I click on the edit button and I scroll down to his contact info, I'll see here his email and communication preferences. His, email preferences include options to allow email, to opt out of mass emails, and to not be emailed at all. And below that are his communication preferences and this is where he does he can designate whether or not he wants email communications or SMS communications. So as an admin I can see what his communication preferences are and this is also where the communication wizard pulls preferences from and, as you saw in that video the wizard will you can you have an option to just send to a a person's preference, the type of communication they want to receive and it will pull from this information here, which kind of communication to send to a person. So this is where that information is stored, for an admin side. Now from the member side you can go to you can go to an external site and use the communication preferences block which you see here. So on your external site you might put this block and that allows members to access their communication preferences. So what you see here are three communication lists and these toggle buttons here which a member can use to set their preferences whether they want to be emailed or receive SMS communications from these specific lists. And this block has block settings as most of them do. And you can change which lists, which communication list categories this block is pulling from. So in this case it's pulling the public list which if we go over to our communication list you'll see we have parents of children, parents of youth, and sports ministry. And these are all public lists so everybody can see them and subscribe to them and set the preferences to them. But I can also create, specific communication lists with certain permissions on them. So I might create maybe a staff only list which would send communications to staff only. And going back to the external site, if I added the that communication list category here and I reloaded my page then that staff only option would would show up here if the person logged in had security permissions to view staff only lists or to set their preferences. So if they don't have the permission to that list they won't see it but if they do then they will and they'll have the option to change their preferences. So likewise there's one other way that members have access to their communication preferences and that is in the email preference screen. And a member would arrive at this screen from an unsubscribe link. And if you remember in the communication wizard video, the communication wizard for mass emails will provide unsubscribe link. If a person clicks on the unsubscribe link they'll come to this, a screen this which you can modify but a screen where they can decide which kinds of emails they want to receive, whether they no longer want to receive emails, and also if they are subscribed to specific communication lists those will also show up here. So as you can see, Rock provides a lot of flexibility both for the admin and for the recipients and a lot of control ways of controlling what they receive and how they receive it.
