Core Docs - Church Management - Configure Kiosks
Rock Version: v21.0

You can manage your check-in kiosks under Admin Tools > Check-in > ti ti-device-imac Devices. Keep in mind that Rock supports multiple types of devices. Check-in kiosks are just one type. (Printers are also configured here.)
When the check-in system starts up, it lists the kiosk devices so the attendant can select which kiosk configuration to use.
It's also helpful to know that when you define a check-in kiosk configuration, it can be used on multiple physical machines at the same time. This means that when you define a check-in kiosk for use in your youth building, that definition can be used for each check-in computer or tablet in that area. Think of these configuration definitions as kiosk templates, not physical machines.
Whether you are adding a new kiosk or editing an existing one, you'll use the screen below to manage the configuration.
Name - Identifies the kiosk at check-in startup, where the attendant chooses which device to use for the session. Name it for where it sits, such as Main Campus: Central Kiosk.
Active - Keeps the kiosk available for check-in. Clear it to retire a kiosk without deleting the record or its attendance history.
Description - Documents the details of the configuration for whoever sets this kiosk up next.
IP Address / Hostname - Identifies the kiosk by address so check-in can select it on its own. The Check-In Admin block looks for a device matching the address of the machine running check-in, and on a match it selects that device and all of its group types, taking the attendant straight to the Welcome screen instead of the Check-In Admin screen. The Enable Kiosk Match By Name setting in the Check-In Admin block widens that search to include hostname alongside IP address.
Device Type - Sets what kind of device the record represents. Choose Check-in Kiosk to make the kiosk settings that follow available.
Point and Geo-fence - Place the kiosk on a map. Point holds the latitude and longitude, and Geo-fence draws the boundary around it that [Classic] Mobile Check-in uses.
Print Settings - Decide where labels print and which machine sends them. The Printing section covers the full picture.
Kiosk Type - Matches the record to the hardware in use. All three types scan QR codes to identify a person when the device has a camera, though the Windows App and browser need the Aero theme for it, and QR codes generated by [Classic] Mobile Check-in scan on iPads only.
Has Camera - Turn this on to scan barcodes and QR codes with the device's built-in camera.
iPad Camera Barcode Configuration - Tunes how the camera reads barcodes. Pick the option that matches how the device gets used; the iPad Application section describes each one. This setting appears only when Kiosk Type is iPad.
Skip Screen Behavior - Sets when the kiosk shows the skip screen, the area selection screen a person lands on when nothing is available for them to check into. Applies to Next-Gen Check-in. Reload the kiosk after changing it, because a running session keeps the configuration it started with.
Allow Adding Families - Add new families right at the kiosk. Because new records affect data quality, this usually belongs on volunteer kiosks where trained helpers enter them. The Check-in Registration chapter covers what this opens up.
Allow Editing Families - Update an existing family during check-in, including managing who is in the household.
Allow Adding Individuals To Existing Families - Controls who can be added to a family that already exists, separately from Allow Editing Families. Reach for it when one kiosk needs finer control over linking new people to existing households.
Registration Mode (Legacy Check-in) - Turns the kiosk into a volunteer-assisted, walk-up registration station for adding a person or guest to an existing family. Legacy check-in uses this mode; Next-Gen Check-in does not.
Locations - Defines which locations the kiosk serves, which limits what a guest sees on screen. Enable every location for the campus when you set up centralized check-in, and keep one kiosk tied to one campus so the options stay clear. Locations are hierarchical, so selecting a parent selects its children too.
Next-Gen Kiosk Setup
When setting up your kiosk you can save your choices, so you don’t have to provide the theme, configuration template, and area selections every time the kiosk starts. You can even have multiple saved configurations if the kiosk is used for different purposes. When the kiosk is turned on, simply tap the button for the desired configuration, and everything will immediately be ready to go.
The ability to save kiosk configurations is only available with Next-Gen Check-in and requires Rock v16.7 or later.
The saved configurations are simply Defined Values. If you need to delete one and start over, you can do so under the Saved Check-in Configurations Defined Type.
For setup, you’ll use the following URLs:
If you need to change your kiosk's settings often, point it to the setup page. Otherwise, you can set it to go directly to the kiosk page. The very first time you go to the kiosk page it will take you to the setup page. After that, it will remember your settings and go straight to the kiosk page.
