Core Docs - Core Concepts - Configure Protect My Ministry
Rock Version: v21.0
Last Modified: 2026-09-25 4:26 PM
Rock v20 retired the original Protect My Ministry integration, which had shipped with Rock since 2014. You can still run background checks through Protect My Ministry. You'll connect it through their current plugin instead of a built-in settings page.
What Changed in Rock v20
Settings page removed - The Protect My Ministry page in Admin Tools > Settings is gone, and the original integration can no longer submit new background checks.
Provider list updated - The original Protect My Ministry no longer appears in the list of background check providers.
Workflow retired - The original Background Check workflow is renamed Background Check (PMM Legacy) and set to inactive, so your past workflows stay on record.
Default provider cleared - If Protect My Ministry was still your default provider, Rock clears that setting during the upgrade and writes a one-time note to the Exception Log. Choose a new default provider to keep background checks running.
Keep Running Background Checks
Install Protect My Ministry 3.0 - Protect My Ministry now connects to Rock through its own plugin. Install Protect My Ministry 3.0 from the Rock Shop, then follow the setup guide that comes with the plugin.
Switch to Checkr - Checkr is Rock's built-in background check provider. Follow the steps in Configure Checkr to set it up.
Your Past Background Checks
Nothing you've already collected is lost. On a person's profile, the View button next to their Background Check Document attribute still opens the original PDF report, and Rock keeps every historical file and workflow record.
