A check-in type's settings control how check-in behaves, from how families look themselves up to what shows on the welcome screen. For most organizations the defaults work well, so treat this as a menu you dip into when you want to change something specific, not a list to work through top to bottom.

These are updated by selecting the Edit button on the Check-in Type. You get there from Admin Tools > Check-In > ti ti-settings Configuration Settings.  

General

Check-in Type Flow

Family check-in only.
Family Member Auto-Select Mode and Days Back for Auto-Selecting Family Members appear only when Check-in Type is set to Family.

Check-in Type - Sets the screen flow a family sees at the kiosk.

Family Member Auto-Select Mode - Sets what is pre-selected when a family member checked in recently.

Days Back for Auto-Selecting Family Members - How many days back Rock looks for a recent check-in when deciding who to pre-select. The default is 10.

Reuse Selections for Additional Service Times - Carries a person's first service selections into every additional service they picked. Enable this so a family attending two services answers once instead of twice.

Prevent Duplicate Check-in - Stops someone from checking into the same service time more than once.

Kiosk Features

Enable Self Check-out at Kiosk - Lets people check out at the kiosk on their way out. Pair it with printed check-out tokens so a volunteer can match the child to the adult.

Allow Removing Guests from Family - Lets someone remove a guest at the kiosk without supervisor approval. A guest is a non-family member connected by a relationship, and removing one clears every relationship marked Can Check-in. Leave this off unless your volunteers are comfortable with that. Supported only by next-gen check-in.

Enable Presence Confirmation - Separates checked in from actually in the room. The attendance record is not marked present until a volunteer marks the person Present in Check-in Manager. Turn this on when you need a true room count rather than a count of everyone who tapped a kiosk.

Display

Promotions Content Channel - Run promotional slides on the kiosk welcome screen. Point this at the content channel holding those items and they'll appear as promotions. Supported only by next-gen check-in.

Hide Individual Photos - Hides photos on the person select screen. Choose this when your kiosks sit in an open lobby.

Display Location Occupancy Count - Adds a live count to each room button showing how many people are checked in there, so a volunteer directing traffic can see which room still has space.

Celebration Achievement Types - Celebrate people right at the kiosk. Pick the achievement types worth a moment here, and earning one triggers an on-screen celebration at check-in. For more, see Check-in Celebrations.

Supervising Check-in

Supervision Capabilities

Enable Supervisor Mode - Adds an option on the check-in welcome screen that opens the supervision screen after a passcode. From there a supervisor opens and closes rooms, reprints a lost label and sees live counts. We suggest leaving this on so a volunteer can solve a problem without leaving the kiosk.

Enable Supervisor Override - Lets a supervisor check a person in while ignoring group requirements such as age and grade. Shown only when Enable Supervisor Mode is selected.

Enable Check-out in Manager - Turns on check out inside Check-in Manager, so a staff member can check a child out from a tablet instead of the kiosk.

Search & Security Codes

Search

Search Type - Sets how families look themselves up after selecting the check-in button. Barcode, fingerprint and RFID scanners work from the welcome screen whatever you pick here.

Phone Number Minimum Length - The fewest digits someone can enter before a phone search runs. The default is 4.

Phone Number Maximum Length - The most digits someone can enter for a phone search. The default is 10.

Phone Number Comparison Method - Sets how entered digits are matched against stored numbers.

Maximum Number of Results - The most families a search returns. The default is 100.

Regular Expression Filter - An optional expression run against the search input first, useful for stripping special characters or an unwanted prefix.

Security Codes

Alpha-Numeric Characters - How many letter-and-number characters make up a security code. Rock builds each code with the alpha-numeric characters first, then alpha, then numeric, and leaves out easily confused characters.

Alpha Characters - How many letter-only characters make up a security code.

Numeric Characters - How many number-only characters make up a security code.

Random Numeric Values - Randomizes the numbers instead of generating them in order. Leave this off and codes start at 1 again each day.

Use Same Code for Family - Gives everyone in a family the same code when they check in together, so a parent has one code to match at pickup.

Advanced Settings

Additional Filters & Settings

Ability Level Determination - Decides whether check-in asks for a person's ability level, and who it asks.

Grade & Age Matching Behavior - Decides how a group's Grade Range works alongside its Age Range or Birthdate Range when Rock finds the groups someone qualifies for. A blank range always passes. Supported only by next-gen check-in.

Age Restriction - Limits which ages this configuration considers, and who appears on the person select screen. Applies only to next-gen check-in.

Enable Proximity Check-in - Makes this configuration and all its areas and groups available for proximity check-in from a native Rock Mobile application.

Hide Inactive People - Keeps individuals with an inactive record status out of the search results and out of check-in.

Age is Required - Prevents someone with no birthdate from checking into an area or group that carries an age requirement.

Grade is Required - Prevents someone with no graduation date from checking into an area or group that carries a grade requirement.

Special Needs

Hide Special Needs Groups - Offers a special needs group only to people marked as special needs.

Hide Non-Special Needs Groups - Offers a standard group only to people who are not marked as special needs. For more, see Special Needs.

Classic Check-in Settings

Classic check-in only. Next-gen check-in ignores these settings, so set them only if you run classic check-in.

Display

Refresh Interval - How often, in seconds, the welcome page refreshes to pick up configuration changes. The default is 10.

Success Template Display Mode - Sets what the success screen does with your custom template.

Templates

Screen Lava templates - Three templates style the classic screens. Start Screen Template renders the Start button on the Welcome block, Family Select Screen Template renders each family button, and Person Select Screen Template appends extra detail to each person button on the Person Select and Multi-Person Select blocks.

Custom Header Text

Set the header for each step of classic check-in. Rock provides a Lava template for the Action Select, Check-out Person Select, Person Select, Multi-Person Select, Group Type Select, Time Select, Ability Level Select, Location Select and Group Select screens. Each field lists its own merge fields in its help text, and most expose the current family, the selected individual and whatever area, group, location or schedule has been chosen so far.
