If skills are the bundles, tools are the individual actions inside them. The Person Skill contains tools like "Get Person Profile," "Get Communication Records" and "Get Group Membership." When you add a skill to an agent, all of its tools come with it.

For most organizations, the built-in skills and their tools cover everything staff need. You won't often need to think about individual tools — you just assign the right skills.

When individual tools matter

Excluding a specific tool from a skill. Maybe you want staff to be able to look up people but you don't want the agent to log notes on their behalf. You can secure individual tools through Rock's permission system to limit what the agent can do, even within a skill you've assigned.

Custom tools. If your organization has a workflow that no built-in tool covers, Rock supports adding custom tools that attach to skills. See community.rockrms.com/developer/ai-agents for details.
