Blocks are the foundation of every page in Rock; without them, pages would simply be blank. They are key to Rock’s flexibility, allowing you to customize settings to fit your organization’s needs and display diverse content without any coding.

What Is a Block

A block is an area on a page that displays or collects information. Think of it like a widget or app on a dashboard.

To be fair, no example really encapsulates the flexibility of blocks better than a Lego kit. If Rock is a Lego kit, then blocks are... you know... the blocks. That means you can assemble Rock in many, many different ways.

You can place blocks into zones within a page’s layout to control where they appear.

For example, the HTML Content Block displays text, images or Lava-powered content.

Where Blocks Live

Blocks sit inside zones on your page. Each page can have one or more zones, and each zone can contain one or more blocks.

The same block type can appear in multiple places with different settings.

Editing Block Settings

You must have security permission to edit a block.

Every block's settings will look very different depending on the configuration needed. Even the ti ti-asterisk Tabs offered will change, though you will often see Basic Settings and Advanced Settings.

What Is Block Context

Blocks often require context to deliver specific results, such as identifying which campus statistics to display. This context enables blocks to be adaptable and dynamic by giving them an understanding of the environment they are in.
