Blog - Time to Chop Some Legacy Blocks

Published: Nov 25, 2025

If you’ve been following the Obsidian Conversion, you know we’ve been steadily climbing the mountain of rewriting Rock’s WebForms blocks on our new Obsidian framework. Each release brings us closer to a lighter, faster, and more maintainable platform that sets Rock up for the future.

This multi-year effort has been a careful balance of innovation and stability. We’ve taken time to test and refine new Obsidian blocks before fully removing their legacy WebForms counterparts—but now it’s time to take the next step forward and say goodbye to a few long-standing blocks.

What’s Changing

In upcoming Rock releases, we’ll be officially chopping several key legacy WebForms blocks. These have been in a testing or “swap” phase for quite some time, but their Obsidian replacements are now ready for full adoption.

Here are the WebForms blocks you can expect to be removed in upcoming versions of Rock:

  • Registration Entry: removed in v19
  • Workflow Entry: removed in v20
  • Check-in: removed in v20

Why This Matters

This cleanup marks a major milestone in Rock’s modernization journey. Removing legacy WebForms blocks reduces maintenance overhead and allows all new features and improvements to focus on the Obsidian framework—bringing better performance, greater consistency, and a stronger foundation for future growth.

If you’re still using the WebForms versions of these blocks, now’s the time to transition your teams and tools to their Obsidian counterparts before upgrading.
